| Diving the Mediterranean |
The Mediterranean
Sea is a very interesting area for diving. For the purpose of
diving, you could best describe it as a "macro" area.
You do not come to the "Med" for whale sharks or mantas.
Bigger fish is seldom seen in these area's, but the number of
smaller organisms is enormous.
There
is a big variation in bottom composition. Sand, sea grass
and rock being most common. All of these have their own specific
attractions and all of these are worth your while. For the
naturalist or biology interested diver this area has all to
offer what one could wish for.
The Instructor
Training College is primarily a training center. We do guided
dives every now and then, but this is not our main activity.
We will be happy to guide you on a dive behind our center, but
if you wish to do a boat dive, you want to refer to one of the
many operations in and around Cannes, specialising in dive trips.
Behind
the IT college you can expect to find octopus, moray eels,
congers and many sorts of smaller fishes, starfish, nudibranches,
anemones, sponges, etc.. Initially the bottom composition
is sand, then progressing to sea grass and all around the
area you'll find rocks under water, each of them having many
different organisms on them. Next to the natural environment,
the IT College did a lot of effort to create artificial habitats
for the organisms in the "med". Many came to stay,
which makes sure that you can visit some fishes every day
at the same spot.
After some
guidance on the first few dives, you will find it easy to find
the different locations yourself. The Instructor Training College
is, next to other programs, running naturalist and fish identification
programs.
These introduce you to the environment you are diving in, making
you aware of the different species and the reasons behind their
behaviour. This might be a good combination for you - going
diving and learning things that make you understand and appreciate
the environment under water even more than you already do. |
| After certification you will want to do some dives. You are
welcome to gain experience at Instructor Training College. Our
rental equipment is all top line from the brand MARES a
world leading manufacturer of diving equipment. As a certified
diver you may choose between guided dives and diving with a
buddy of your choice in which case you only need equipment.
The Med is not known for large animals such as whale sharks
or mantas, but is fantastic with respect to macro organisms.
Behind the IT College we have both natural and artificial reefs,
which promise you some fantastic dives.
Instructors also have the option to use the facilities of
IT College with their own students. They are assigned pool
and classroom time for knowledge development, briefings and
remedial sessions and have access to the sea, equipment storage,
rest room and showers. The daily fee includes lunch and air
fills, but not equipment rental. The number of spaces for
this option is limited. Make you reservations well in advance.
