| Become a First Responder |
| The
EFR program can be offered in different manners - only primary
care or primary and secondary care - with or without optional
skills, such as the use of Automated External Defibrillators
and Emergency Oxygen and there is a Care for Children program.
At the IT College we teach the program in the most complete
form, including primary care and secondary care and including
all the optional skills. We feel that a complete program will
better prepare you to act in an emergency and therefore have
committed to introduce you to all allowed skills and equipment.
We also offer the Care for Children program.
The program will take a complete day. Bandage materials and
the certification fees are included in the price of the program.
As additional expenses you have to invest in an EFR manual
with DVD (to help you to stay current with your skills after
you completed your course).
The course is offered “a la carte” - just let us know when
you want to do it - and the price is 75 Euro. Consider
to combine this course with the half day Oxygen First Aid
program which takes you beyond the basics of the use of Emergency
Oxygen and gives you in-depth knowledge of the importance
and the use in diving related emergencies. |
| Become an Emergency First Response
Instructor |
Print
registration form The
course to become an Emergency First Response Instructor takes
two days. For PADI members there is a one day option until the
end of 2005. After completion of the program you are authorized
to teach Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR), Secondary
Care (First-Aid) and Care for Children courses with or without
the optional skills.
During the course (and later on when you are teaching) you will
need an EFR Instructor Kit. The price of the program is 299
Euro, including certification fee and bandage materials but
excluding manuals and DVD. Your EFRI training is done “a la
carte”. Just let us know when you want to do your course. |
| Do a Cross-Over from MFAI (or
similar) to EFR Instructor |
Print registration
form First
Aid and CPR Instructors from other organizations can become
EFR Instructors in a 5 hour program. First Aid and CPR Instructor
certifications from all recognized organizations qualify, but
mostly the participants will be PADI Medic First Aid Instructors.
The optional training for your students in Automated External
Defibrillators and basic use of Emergency oxygen will be included
in your IT College EFR Instructor Cross-Over. After completion
of the program you are authorized to teach Emergency First Response
Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First-Aid) and Care for
Children courses and you can choose to do this with or without
the optional skills.
During the course (and later on when you are teaching) you will
need an EFR Instructor Kit. The price of the Cross-Over is 99
Euro. Materials and the application fee are not included.
At the IT College we do this program “a la carte” - just let
us know when and in which language you want to do the course.
(French, Dutch, German or English). |
| FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) |
Q
- Is the EFR program very different from the Medic First Aid
program?
A - Both courses address the same topic - helping in a medical
emergency. In both courses you learn skills for the same situations.
For some of these skills (including CPR) the guidelines from
the medical community have changed recently - these recommendations
come from ILCOR and the ERC. The EFR program is based on the
most recent guidelines. The EFR program is consistent with the
regular PADI courses, which means that the theory can be learned
in self-study prior to the participation in the course and teaching
can be prescriptive. In EFR the skill training is completed
with the participation is accident scenario’s, just as in the
PADI Rescue Diver program. EFR offers the option to teach the
use of Automated External Defibrillators and to include an introduction
to the basic use of Emergency Oxygen.
Q - Must I be a Diving Instructor in order to qualify
for participation in an Emergency First Response Instructor
course?
A - No. Anybody who is interested in teaching first aid can
become an EFR Instructor. To attend the program you should
either be a health care professional, or you must have completed
an EFR primary care, secondary care and care for children
consumer course. For those who did not yet do the EFR Care
for Children program, we have the option to combine this certification
with the instructor course.
Q - Is the training in the use of an Automated External
Defibrillator required during the EFR course?
A - No. It is an optional skill. However - since Instructors
have the option to teach this skill, the training in the use
of Automated External Defibrillators is required for EFR Instructor
Courses and the EFR Instructor Cross-Over.
Q - What are the prerequisites to participate in
an Emergency First Response Instructor course?
A - As we are switching from the old instructor course to
the new one in 2005, there are several options. You can refer
to the registration form in
order to find out your options. |
