The Equipment Specialty Instructor course is a one day program in which you are introduced to the basics of the theory behind the functioning of diving equipment. The course aims to prepare you for teaching the „standard“ equipment specialty to your students. Based on what they learn in the course, students should be able to take an informed decision on the equipment they want to buy and to maintain that equipment. The course has very little practical application, but explains in (much) detail the difference between the various types of regulators (balanced vs. non-balanced, piston vs. membrane, pilot vs. traditional, etc.), cylinders and valves, inflators and instruments. Candidates are recommended to have the book “Advanced Theory for Recreational Divers”. |

The theory follows the book “Diving Equipment Functioning & Care” from Scuba Publications. For this book an Instructor Kit is available (also in a Basic Version). As a candidate in the Advanced Equipment Specialty Instructor Course, you are required to either have the full kit or the basic version. The practical part of the course starts with field testing of regulators and workshops on small repairs. Depending on the duration of your practical training, you will be introduced to progressively more challenging maintenance procedures for valves, regulators, inflators and other equipment items. Those who are going to be working in remote areas are recommended to opt for three days of practical training (in addition to the one day of theory). |
