Search & Recovery instructor

The “standard” Search & Recovery Specialty Instructor Course is based on the techniques that are explained in the PADI Adventures in Diving Manual. As you should be familiar with most of that information, you should be able to complete the training for this specialty in one day. As an instructor you do only two dives (there are four dives included in the consumer course) and the limited amount of theory required for this rating should fit in the time available before and after dives.

Advanced Search & Recovery Instructor

The Advanced Search & Recovery Specialty has more practical aspects than theory, but that does not make the theoretical background less important. The course leads you through the equipment items and the procedures for various techniques to searching, marking and recovering. Some of the techniques are unique to this course and have been used in real recovery projects. The skills are not only useful for recovery, but also for activities such as building artificial reefs.

The course teaches the calculations needed to decide on lift bag size, air supply and surface weight (along with a comprehensive list of specific weights), teaches alternate ways to tie knots, lets your students benefit from the long experience the Course Director has on searches and lifting techniques and provides you with tips to organize a challenging and rewarding practical part of the course.

There is an option to do the theory part of this course online. Those who have done that should be able to complete the training in one day (if you did not yet do the theory, you should add half a day to your schedule). Doing the theory already at home will not only reduce the course price, but also allows you to make better use of the time you spent in the South of France.

Candidates are required to have the Search & Recovery Instructor Kit (either the complete kit or the basic version). The College can offer complete flexibility for the scheduling of your course. You can opt for half or full days, do several days of training without taking a break or take your course one day at a time.
